Airport operator Finavia has completed an investment project worth €2.5m at Kuusamo Airport, with flights now having resumed.

During the renovation, Kuusamo Airport’s runway lighting system was replaced and the apron and taxiway were resurfaced. The airport, which serves one of the largest ski resorts in Finland, is now ready for the winter season.

Just under €2m was allocated to a new runway lighting system, the implementation of which took environmental impacts into account. A total of 160 new energy-efficient LED lights were installed on the runway. The energy efficiency of the new lights is 50% better than that of the old lights, Finavia said.

Several local businesses from the Kuusamo area participated in the renovation. Finavia employees from Kuusamo, Oulu and Kajaani airports also took part.
