American Airlines passengers flying out of Miami International Airport can now schedule their TSA checkpoint screening time through a new service rolled out by the airport operator.

MIA Reserve – which is a free amenity – enables travellers to schedule their appointment time up to 72 hours before their flight.

A six-month pilot programme with security partners Pangiam and American Airlines begins today.

Appointments are available up to 60 minutes before domestic flights and up to 90 minutes before international services.

Daniella Levine Cava, mayor of Miami-Dade County, said: “As MIA continues to set new records in passenger traffic, I’m proud to see that we are also exploring new ways to streamline the airport experience for our visitors. MIA Reserve has the potential to help many of our travellers get through the security checkpoint faster than ever before.”

If a passenger didn’t pre-schedule an MIA Reserve time before arriving at the airport, they can still make a reservation by using their smartphone to scan the QR code on the MIA Reserve signs at Checkpoint 4 and then setting up an appointment.

Ralph Cutié, MIA director and CEO, added: We are excited to partner with American Airlines and Pangiam on this six-month pilot programme for MIA Reserve, which could pave the way for even shorter checkpoint wait times at MIA.”

The service is the latest customer experience enhancement rolled out at the airport this year. Just before Labor Day weekend in early September, MIA reopened valet parking for the first time since the pandemic.

Meanwhile, beginning in October, the airport will launch the first phase of biometric boarding at its passenger gates.
