Global travel retailer WHSmith has opened its first store at LaGuardia airport’s new Terminal B, using Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology.

The new WHSmith outlet at LaGuardia offers travellers a checkout-free shopping experience, and a variety of on-the-go snacks, beverages and everyday travel essentials. With a tap of a credit card, customers can enter the store, pick up their desired items, and leave without waiting in line. As travellers shop, Just Walk Out technology determines what they take from or return to the shelves, and the credit card they used on entry will be charged for the items they took after they leave the store.

“Opening the first North American WHSmith using Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology at LaGuardia Terminal B is an honour,” said Marshall Retail Group CEO Toby Keir. “As a Group, we’re always striving to provide the best retail experience for our customers and this new technology allows travellers to shop quickly and with ease during their journey. It’s a hugely exciting time for our business and we look forward to strengthening the retail provision in airports across the US by opening more stores under our WHSmith, Marshall Retail Group and InMotion brands.”

The WHSmith store is open daily from 4:30am – 9:00pm.
