VIPA has chosen the VIPorts Partners consortium to redevelop the Cyril E King Airport in St. Thomas and the Henry E Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix

VIports consists of Aecon, Tikehau Star Infra, Consigli Benton Joint Venture (J Benton Construction) and Avports. Aecon Concessions will hold a 50% equity interest in the 40-year concession with Tikehau Star Infra also holding 50% of the equity.

Aecon, as design-build lead, will also have a 50% interest in the design-build joint venture together with local partner J Benton Construction. Avports will serve as the operations and maintenance partner.

Under a transition phase agreement, VIports and VIPA will negotiate and finalise various elements of the project over a nine-month period. Upon successful completion of the transition phase, financial close is expected in the first quarter of 2025.

VIPorts Partners was selected by VIPA in response to its Airports P3 Request for Proposal. The partners will redevelop both terminals with modern airport amenities, including additional passenger boarding and bridges. VIports Partners will also enter into a transition agreement with VIPA to operate and maintain the terminals and both airports.

“We are pleased to bring value and our expertise in managing airport operations to these two airports,” said Jorge Roberts, CEO of Avports. “The US Virgin Islands are known for their pristine beaches, turquoise waters, natural diversity, and unique culture and history. Enhancing these airports will open new doors and travel opportunities.”

Steven Nackan, executive vice president  and president of Aecon Concessions, described the undertaking an historic project for the US Virgin Islands, delivering critical infrastructure while prioritising local economic, social and community benefits.
