The UK’s Department for Transport has launched a consultation on airport slot allocation system reform

The UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) has launched a new consultation on airport slot allocation system reform. The DfT said the UK aviation industry will have a say on its airport slot regime for the first time since the 1990s. The reforms being consulted on will include proposals for new ways to manage slot capacity and how they are allocated to airlines. This includes limiting slot leasing and proposals to provide more powers for the industry to respond to crises, making it more resilient in times of uncertainty.

Karen Dee, chief executive of the Airport Operators Association, said: “Slots reform is an opportunity to improve the efficiency of the UK aviation system and this consultation is a welcome step in that direction.  We will be working constructively with government to ensure airports’ views are taken on board as these plans develop.”
