Swedish airports operator Swedavia has provided an update on the new Marketplace at Stockholm Arlanda, the largest ever commercial investment at the airport.

Swedavia’s development of the new Stockholm Arlanda is now well under way. A large-scale security checkpoint with state-of-the-art technology is being built in Terminal 5, and next door, the new Marketplace is under construction, featuring Nordic design and offering 11,000m2 of commercial space. The first of three phases will open in the summer of 2023, and the whole Marketplace will be complete by the end of 2024/beginning of 2025.

“Part of our commercial strategy for the public tendering of new shops for the Marketplace has been to create good opportunities for shopping, whether it is planned or more spontaneous in nature. A varied offering and a broad range of prices that appeal to different customer groups have been important aspects,” said Charlotte Ljunggren, chief marketing officer at Swedavia and acting airport director at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

The tendering process for the first shops moving in at Stockholm Arlanda and the new Marketplace is now complete.

Shops opening next summer in the initial phase of the project include: Stockholm Duty Free; Sweshop, a new concept focusing on Nordic handcrafts, culture and heritage; electronics retailer InMotion; Pocketshop; and Kronan (Apotek) pharmacy. Phase 2 will involve the late 2023 opening of further Sweshop and Pocketshop outlets, in addition to a branch of World of Toys, which will offer not just toys, but children’s clothing.

The final phase of the Marketplace opening will involve GANT, J Lindberg and Aera outdoor leisure fashion.
