‘The Prow’, the distinct architectural feature for Orlando Airport’s under-construction South Terminal, was raised into position on May 27. Teams from the Hensel Phelps and Turner-Kiewit Joint Venture, the construction managers at risk for the project, met with executives from the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority to celebrate the landmark event.

With the crowning of The Prow, South Terminal construction is now 60% complete. Phil Brown, GOAA’s CEO was among those who signed the 66,000-lb (29,937kg) beam before it was raised.

The all-new South Terminal currently has approximately 1,600 workers on site who continue to build the largest expansion project in airport history. It is scheduled for completion in February 2022 and, when open, will deliver an additional 2 million sq ft (185,806,080m²) of space to the airport’s footprint.
