Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has boosted its air traffic control training with the first-time inclusion of a radar control course.

A six-strong MACL team are currently undertaking the company’s first air traffic control (ATC), radar control and area control surveillance course (ICAO 054). This comprehensive eight-week programme is designed to empower air traffic control professionals and strengthen the company's air navigation services, MACL said.

The lead instructor is Richard Thomas Smith of Global ATS / UK, joined by MACL instructors Mohmed Athuhar and Ahmed Nazeer.

As the entity mandated to provide air navigation services to all airports in the Maldives, MACL places great importance on advancing the skills and expertise of its air traffic control personnel, the company said. Earlier this year MACL inaugurated two ATC license courses, the area control procedural course (ICAO 055) and the approach control procedural course (ICAO 053).
