Paris Aéroport (Groupe ADP) aims to deliver a smoother passenger experience by means of a major deployment of Amadeus self-service solutions.

Self-service options open to travellers will significantly expand at Paris’ two primary airports as part of a new agreement between Paris Aéroport and travel technology specialist Amadeus. More than 100 new auto bag drop (ABD) machines from ICM Airport Technics, an Amadeus company, will be installed at Paris Aéroport platforms (Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly airports) over the coming months. These join 360 such machines already in operation, meaning passengers can choose self-serve bag drop at more than half of the check-in service points across the French capital’s airports.

Edward Arkwright, deputy CEO, Groupe ADP, said: “Our strategy is to develop smart airport solutions that ease the work of our airline customers and improve the terminal experience by making the passenger path smoother and faster. While they will always have the choice between this automated service or a traditional experience at the airline's check-in counter, we are seeing an increasing number of passengers choosing to check-in their own luggage. Our goal is to help them save time.”

The move provides passengers with new self-service options, reducing queues and improving the overall performance of the airports. According to Amadeus, self-service bag drop with these machines takes just 37 seconds on average, increasing the airports’ passenger handling capacity and offering a smoother experience for passengers.

Yannick Beunardeau, Amadeus SVP airport and airline operations, EMEA, said: “Airports and airlines have experienced significant operational challenges as they adapt to rapidly rising passenger numbers. At the airport, automation offers a proven route to reduce queues by allowing passengers to take control of their own experience. That’s why Groupe ADP is placing self-service at the heart of its passenger service strategy.”
