Frequentis has strengthened its cybersecurity competence with the acquisition of German safety-critical VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol ) expert Frafos.

Founded in 2010, with offices in Berlin and Prague, Frafos will provide important security components for Frequentis communication solutions in all safety-critical domains. Its solutions are approved for mission-critical installations in government organisations and certified by the German central certification body for IT system security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik – BSI), Frequentis said.

“Software solutions in virtualised environments require enhanced security and network monitoring, to protect against potential cyber-attacks. With Frafos we have found an expert in VoIP firewalls to support us in our solutions for safety-critical domains, allowing advanced prevention of denial-of-service attacks (DoS) and fraud attempts on the border of communication networks,” said Norbert Haslacher, CEO, Frequentis. “We are pleased to add Frafos to our growing group of companies that support our mission to be number one in control centre solutions.”

The Frafos portfolio
Frafos is a leading provider of IT security solutions for VoIP communication in Germany, offering various software products, including cloud-native solutions developed for virtualised environments, and public-service-approved solutions for mission-critical installations.

The Frafos Session Border Control (SBC) solution separates networks from open, untrusted internet access, blocks DoS attacks and fraud attempts, hides the internal network structure from outsiders, and blacklists suspicious sources. It also provides a central logging and monitoring point while enforcing certain policies for security, availability, and routing, including the number of allowed calls, the IP addresses to block, and server routing.

The Frafos Secunet SBC is developed in cooperation with Secunet, combining IP firewall and SBC and providing required separation of data and voice networks in governmental environments. It is the only solution in Germany certified by the BSI.

The acquisition of FRAFOS will enhance Frequentis’ comprehensive portfolio of products through its cybersecurity capability and proficiency. FRAFOS will continue to operate from its base in Berlin and offices in Prague. The current FRAFOS team will remain responsible for supporting and growing its customer base, with the same team and quality as had previously been successful.
