Berlin Brandenburg’s Airport Operating Company has sold a 63ha plot of land in the vicinity of the airport to real estate specialist Segro.

Flughafengesellschaft Berlin Brandenburg has sold the last of its plots of land in the Business Park Berlin. A purchasing contract for the plot was signed with the British real estate company Segro following a structured bidding procedure. This was one of the largest real estate transactions in Germany in 2021, although the parties agreed not to disclose the purchasing price.

Segro acquired 38ha in the Business Park Berlin in 2008, building industrial units for around 70 tenants from a wide mix of sectors, including yacht and aircraft assembly, transport and logistics companies, and traditional crafts. Additional light industrial areas are planned for the newly bought plot.

Aletta von Massenbach, chief executive officer of airport operator Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg, said: “We are very pleased that the properties have been purchased by a company that is future-orientated and intends to invest in sustainable industrial development. This will create additional jobs and is an enormous gain for the region around the airport. An architecturally challenging and sustainable district will spring up in the immediate vicinity of Terminal 1, which will attract internationally operating companies from forward-looking sectors.”
