European airport trade body ACI Europe has released its air traffic report for February 2022.
The report shows that while aviation recovery stalled for two months due to the COVID-19 Omicron wave, passenger traffic has resumed an upward trajectory in February. Compared to pre-pandemic levels, passenger volume across the European airport network stood at -39%, up from -45.7% in January.
The outlook for the Easter holidays and the summer months is strong, but staff shortages, high traffic peaks and ATM capacity issues are starting to put a strain on operations and to impact quality. The ongoing war in Ukraine also poses significant downside risks for European air traffic.
