Michael Kunz has been appointed CEO of Munich Airport NJ (MA NJ), the operator of the new Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Kunz assumed responsibilities in Newark on March 1, 2023, after a one-month transition phase.

Over the past three years MA NJ and its parent company Munich Airport International (MAI) worked closely together with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to develop the largest-ever design-built project in New Jersey. Following the successful opening of the new state-of-the-art terminal on January 12, 2023, the management has now moved to operations mode.

“It is our pleasure to welcome Michael to the Munich Airport family,” said Dr Lutz Weisser, managing director at MAI. “As a well-respected senior executive with an extensive knowledge and great hands-on mentality, he is the perfect fit to lead Munich Airport NJ’s next chapter.”

Kunz has a longstanding and broad career in the aviation sector. At Fraport he was not only in charge of management contracts in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, but also responsible for all international consulting projects. Key projects included the operational upgrades at Ljubljana Airport, the extension of Lima Airport and several operational readiness and airport transfer (ORAT) projects. Subsequently he held management positions at the operation company of Klagenfurt Airport and Dornier Consulting International.

Most recently, Kunz served as associate partner and head of the Infrastructure & Operations Solution Group at Lufthansa Consulting. In this position he optimised the ramp, terminal, cargo and catering processes of a large ground operations company in the Middle East, and acted as an on-site advisor for the CEO.
