Malaysia Airports continues to champion airport operational excellence through its latest collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

The airport operator has signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with the university, covering 15 focus areas within the fields of airport operations, engineering, and technology. This initiative aims to provide continuous improvement and capacity building opportunities in managing Malaysia Airports’ network of airports through the exchange of expertise, ideas, information, technology, and innovation.

Dato’ Iskandar Mizal Mahmood, managing director of Malaysia Airports, said, “Other than the pursuit of operational excellence, this collaboration presents opportunities for commercialisation and intellectual property. This way, Malaysia Airports can also play a role in contributing to the country’s aspiration to be among the top 20 of the Global Innovation Index by 2030.”

Malaysia Airports and UTM collaborated in 2018 to develop the Foreign Object Debris Detection System (FODDS) at KL International Airport (KLIA). This resulted in the successful implementation of various technology transfer and human capital development strategies between the two parties.
