Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) is to undertake the largest industrial project in the airport’s history on behalf of global logistics specialist Aramex Australia.

BAC will kickstart the development of Airport Industrial Park with the construction of international courier business Aramex’s new 26,120m2 office and warehouse.

This marks the first stage of development of the landmark estate, which is a 100-hectare-plus master-planned warehousing, logistics and manufacturing precinct, more than five times the size of Brisbane’s South Bank.

Development of the Aramex facility will involve up to 1,500 workers during the construction phase. Once opened, Aramex will employ 60 people with over 120 courier franchises operating from the site each day.

“We are excited to welcome Aramex to launch Airport Industrial Park with us,” said Martin Ryan, Brisbane Airport Corporation executive general manager commercial. “The size of this development highlights the potential for logistics and industrial development at Brisbane Airport at scale.”

The development for Aramex will include a warehouse with approximately 25,070m2 of Net Lettable Area (NLA), an office of 1,050m2 NLA and 157 car parking bays and racks for 14 bicycles plus end-of-trip facilities There will be space for pallet racking, freight sortation and a customer collection zone.

The new facility will also feature approximately 1,000kW of commercial rooftop solar panels, about 117 times more than the average current household installation. This adds to Brisbane Airport’s sustainability credentials, with approximately 6,000 PV solar panels already fitted to the rooftops of six recent major developments. A further 18,000 solar panels are already in operation across the airport,  with more on the way.

Aramex Brisbane general manager Jacob Marsters said the new Brisbane facility would boost its delivery and logistics capability in South East Queensland. He added: “In our business, speed and efficiency are critical. That’s why being located at the Brisbane Airport precinct and connected to major arterial roads were key factors in our decision.

"The quick access to the northern, western and southern distribution networks, along with multiple access points in the precinct will be an advantage for our operations."
Airport Industrial Park stage one is under development, with land preparation for subsequent stages underway. The Aramex site is centrally positioned within the industrial-zoned 49,571m2 precinct. It is expected to be complete by Q2 2024.
