Alstef Group has been chosen as the preferred partner for the baggage system modernisation programme at Canada’s Edmonton International Airport (YEG).

In late 2021, YEG released a request for proposal (RFP) for its baggage system modernisation project. The RFP process aimed to identify parties interested in partnering with YEG on strategic and innovative solutions for the airport’s baggage handling system (BHS). These were to include not just modernisation of the baggage system but also the addressing of deficiencies and critical risks within the current BHS environment.

After a year-long evaluation process, Alstef Group was assessed as providing the best value proposal to meet the airport’s long-term needs.

The first phase of the BHS modernisation project begins immediately. It includes the replacement of legacy controls equipment, upgrading and adding new bag-tag readers, the replacement of the existing SCADA software, and the development and commissioning of transit passenger baggage processing software. Subsequent future phases, to begin in late 2023 and early 2024, involve the modernisation of the airport’s legacy baggage handling infrastructure and operational technical support.

“We are excited to enter into a long-term partnership with Alstef Group to provide reliable, secure, and innovative baggage services. We look forward to collaborating with our airline partners, internal teams, and, most importantly, our passengers to modernise these critical services,” said Tara Mulrooney, vice president of technology and innovation, Edmonton International Airport (YEG).
