Barcelona-based F&B specialist Areas has won a contract to manage more than half of the gastronomic offer at Mexico’s Guadalajara Airport.

Areas will operate eight new establishments, in addition to the nine it currently manages, giving it projected sales of $150m over the seven-year concession period.

The Areas offer is based on a combination of renowned international brands, such as Carls Jr, Subway, Sbarro and KFC, local concepts such as Tacos Don Miguelón, Maestro Dobel Tequila, Moshi and Cantina La Imperial, as well as own brands, like Farine cafeteria.

This renewal of the airport’s gastronomic offer will begin in August, with Areas planning to invest more than $5m in the transformation.

“We continue to grow and diversify our business. Winning this tender in Guadalajara Airport consolidates us as a leading player in Mexico. Our goal is to continue winning more tenders, both in South America and North America. We are excited to partner again with GAP [Grupo Aeroportuario Del Pacífico] in these new concessions,” said Oscar Vela, Areas CEO.

This award reinforces Areas’ position in Mexico, where the company manages 140 points of sale; 82 establishments in 22 airports, and 58 convenience stores in large tourist complexes. Around 80% of the company's sales come from outside Spain, and Mexico is one of the countries where Areas has focused on continuing to expand its activity in Latin America.
