Manchester Airports Group (MAG), this summer, saw its strongest period of recovery since the pandemic began.
The company’s four airports handled four times as many passengers in the peak months of this year compared to 2021.
Figures for August show 16 million passengers passed through the terminals of Manchester, London/Stansted and East Midlands airports in June, July and August, representing 86% of the traffic seen over the same period in 2019.
The operator described the return of passenger volumes as “strong”, contrasting it to last summer when the group served just four million travellers in the peak summer months, owing to pandemic-induced travel restrictions.
The Group served 5.8 million passengers in August alone this year, increasing from 5.5 million in July.
Manchester and London/Stansted each welcomed more than 2.5 million passengers last month for the first time since 2019.
East Midlands has also seen its traffic steadily increase over the summer, serving nearly 430,000 passengers in August.
