Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) has appointed Taylor Woodrow International Construction to carry out major expansion work at Abu Dhabi International Airport.  The work is part of the Capital Enhancement Program (CEP) at the airport, which aims to accommodate growing traffic.

The AED 84,040,082 (US$22.8m) joint venture between Taylor Woodrow and local contractor Fibrex Construction Group will carry out upgrades in Terminal 3 over 12 months.  Two new passenger buildings and a link bridge are included in the plans.

A 64,745sq ft (6,015m2) bus gates facility will provide a lounge area for 2,000 passengers and serve as a transfer point between T3 and remote aircraft stands.  Its first floor will be fitted with a 34,445sq ft (3,200m2) Etihad Business Lounge.  A steel framed passenger link bridge will connect the building to T3’s departures level.

The second building to be constructed will house transfer passenger screening facilities.  The steel-framed structure will add 29,063sq ft (2,700m2) to the terminal and is due to be completed by next February.

H E Ali Majed Al Mansouri, Chairman of ADAC, commented:  “ADAC is committed to providing the best services to airlines and passengers despite the existing capacity challenges.  In 2012, the airport saw 18.9% growth in passenger traffic compared to 2011; and, with the strong growth registered to date this year, traffic in 2013 is expected to follow last year’s growth trend.”
