Ryanair has ordered 175 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft, worth $15.6 billion at list prices.

The order will increase Ryanair’s fleet to 400, and the carrier expects to serve more than 100 million passengers a year across Europe by the end of the delivery stream in 2018.

Upon approval by the carrier’s shareholders, the companies claim the purchase will become Boeing’s largest deal to date in 2013 and will be the largest ever aircraft order from a European airline.

A Ryanair statement says that 75 of the aircraft will replace some of its existing fleet of 305.  CEO Michael O’Leary said:  “Ryanair has the largest fleet of Boeing aeroplanes in Europe and today’s order will enable Ryanair to expand and grow by offering more competition, lower prices and better choice across the continent of Europe.  Ryanair is proud to be investing in high-quality US manufacturing and jobs.”
