Automated Boarding Pass Scanners Introduced at CPH

Manual boarding checks at Copenhagen Airport (CPH) have been replaced by automated scanning, in a bid to reduce passenger waiting time and costs and increase capacity and passenger satisfaction.

Johnnie Müller, head of security at CPH, stated:  “Our passenger interviews show that ‘self-service travellers are satisfied travellers’.  Today, 75% of passengers check in online, at airport kiosks or by mobile phone.  For this reason, we are convinced that passengers will welcome the new e-gates, which will make it even easier for them to make their way through the airport.”

The airport is one of the first in Europe to introduce e-gates, which are already common in underground and train stations.  Passengers self-scan their boarding passes, gaining them access (if valid) to the security screening area.  Boarding passes on paper and on personal devices such as mobile phones can be accepted at the units.

Mr Müller added that the six new e-gates have replaced four desks, making the process reportedly faster and easier.  The turnstiles at the gates were supplied by Kaba.

Two manned desks have been retained to help passengers with reduced mobility or those travelling with young children.  There is also a dedicated access point for passengers using CPH Express, the airport’s two express lanes through security.
