GVK-managed Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (MIAL) has awarded the duty free retail contract for the future Terminal 2 at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA).

The Aer Rianta International consortium will run the core duty free operations, including tobacco, liquor, perfumes and confectionery, in the 50,850sq ft (4,724m2) retail area.  Nuance Group (India) Pvt Ltd – who won the contract for 12,690sq ft (1,179m2) of space dedicated to fashion, luxury and lifestyle brands – will design and build the shopping environment.  The commercial area will include 64,583.5sq ft (6,000m2) of food and beverage options and 465 advertising sites, both indoor and outdoor.

Managing Director of MIAL, GV Sanjay Reddy, commented:  “At a time when CSIA is undergoing a major transformation, we decided to associate with duty free partners that showed innovation in all areas of the business and a commitment to provide superior choice to passengers.  Both the partners selected are experienced operators who currently run duty free concessions at several world-class airports and are best placed to understand the T2 consumers.”

The contracts will run until March 31, 2024.  The parties were chosen for their comprehensive range of brands and products, their understanding of Indian consumers and a customer-centric approach to design.

The new T2, designed by architects SOM, is expected serve 40 million passengers a year.
