Frankfurt’s New Information Kiosks Read Boarding Passes

Thanks to new information kiosks, passengers at Frankfurt Airport in Germany now find it easier to navigate their way to boarding gates.

The touch-screen units display data on flights, including any changes to departure times and gates, which is linked to the airport’s central information system.

They were designed by airport owner Fraport, and delivered by Polygon GmbH.  Each is equipped with a barcode scanner, which reads boarding passes to calculate the fastest route to the appropriate departure gate.

The display also slides up or down to suit users of any height.  Fraport plans to install about 90 of the units in both of its terminals to help people get their bearings.

The information kiosks are part of Fraport’s “Great to have you here!” service programme, which aims to introduce improvements into the airport to enhance passenger comfort and convenience.
