Operator AENA Airports has opened two new retail units at Barcelona-El Prat Airport, as part of its Terminal 2 redevelopment project.

Catalan fashion and accessories brand Desigual will open a 2,691sq ft (250m2) store in Module 1 while Claire’s Accessories will have a 431sq ft (40m2) unit in Module 3.  Both brands are expected to be operational by the second quarter of this year.

At the end of last year, the airport opened a Cottet store, selling sunglasses and watches, and a Natura store, selling fashion and household items, in Terminal 2.  The Caffè de Fiore cafeteria was also remodelled and relocated in Module 3.

Five remaining concessions are expected to be awarded in the coming days.

AENA launched the redevelopment to optimise shopping options and improve user experience for its target passengers in the terminal, which handled more than 12 million passengers in 2012.  Following the redesign, Terminal 2 will have 24 stores in a retail area of 96,875sq ft (9,000m2), a 75% increase from 2011.  The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer.
