Plymouth Airport Needs Partner

Though Plymouth City Airport, UK, was closed by lease holder Sutton Harbour Holdings(SHH) on December 23, the local city council is now seeking a private sector partner to reopen the facility.

Tudor Evans, Head of the city’s Labour-run council, which came to power after May’s local elections, has said that the council is unable to subsidise the airport’s operation.  However, he has stated that new attempts are underway to find a private sector operator to run the facility.

Plymouth’s passenger services ended in July 2011, and SHH say the site is commercially unviable as an airport.  It is a view that was shared by the previous Conservative council.
